Sunup Shorthairs is a small, home kennel situated on ten acres in Newmarket, Ontario, just 45 minutes north of downtown Toronto. Although we are a relatively new kennel, our commitment to quality dogs is timeless. My goal is to establish and develop a breeding programme of German Shorthaired Pointers; a beautiful dog with sound temperament that makes a wonderful family companion. Both my husband, Peter, and I grew up in families that were never without dogs. Eleven years of my childhood were shared with my beloved Rough Collie, and later on we had Afghan Hounds. Peter's family rescued large unwanted dogs from shelters and used them as watchdogs for their country store. Peter is an avid skeet shooter and enjoys bird hunting. For years he hunted without a dog, but that changed when he joined some friends with their Shorthairs. He was very impressed with how they worked in the field. Our first German Shorthaired Pointer was Belle, acquired in 1995 as a family pet and hunting companion. She proved easily trainable and was great with our children. I fell in love with the breed's awesome beauty, boundless energy, and natural hunting and pointing instincts. My passion for this breed, as I'm sure other owners can relate, lured me to acquiring more dogs and to explore field tests and conformation shows. Our dogs are part of our family and their health is very important. They get lots of love and attention, receive good quality food and get plenty of exercise. They are routinely checked by a veterinarian, vaccinated and dewormed. The dogs we intend to breed will have their hips and eyes certified. |
